He has two younger brothers, Justin and Gerald. Alvarez attended Edward Kemble Elementary School, in Sacramento, California.

In 1995, the family moved to Haskell, New Jersey. Alvarez attended Saint Mary's School, in Pompton Lakes, New Jersey, where he excelled in Physical Education (PE).

In 2001, Alvarez attended Lakeland Regional High School, where he participated in Track and field his Sophomore year. Coaches and teachers were always asking him to join the team or class.
